How to turn off the Security Warning when starting an Info-Retriever workstation
Solution Applies to:
All Network versions of Info-Retriever 2000 and above running on Windows XP (sp2) and above.

Issue:
When you start Info-Retriever from a workstation, the Open File - Security Warning dialog appears as shown below.

Cause:
This is a security measure built-in to later versions of Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer to warn you that you are about to run a program across the internet, or intranet (your local network).

Resolution:
Add the name of your server to the trusted zones list for the "Local Internet" zone in your Internet Options. (Don't worry, it's not as complicated as it sounds).

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools and select Internet Options.
  3. Click on the Security tab.
  4. Click on the Local intranet icon.
  5. Click on the Sites button.
  6. Make sure that "Automatically detect intranet network" is checked
  7. Click on Advanced.
  8. Enter the name of your server in the field provided and click Add.  For example, in my case the server name is \\Annie.
    Add server to intranet zone
  9. Click close.
If the problem persists, make sure that your server name is entered correctly.
